Please remember that 164 of these men were transferred from ‘D’ Company, 6th Royal Irish Regiment – our Founders, although 42 others declined, and remained with the Royal Irish until February 1918 when the 6th Battalion was decommissioned.

Thursday 1st June, 7 pm: Exact centenary of the embarkation of the 1st (Service) Battalion RGLI on SS Lydia en route to France – listen to the bells of the Town Church 

Sunday 4th June: March, Parade and Town Church Service to commemorate the departure of the RGLI for the western front in 1917.
